development to adults. When either hormone is low, the dauer state is promoted. Insulin/IGF and TGF-b are expressed by sensory neurons in C. elegans, which couple transcription of both hormones to the environment. By contrast, downstream hormone receptors are broadly expressed, allowing for organism-wide developmental changes. Interestingly, the insulin pathway has also been linked to longevity, both in C. elegans and mammals, suggesting a link between stress-responses and aging, and that this ‘lowly’ worm can perhaps teach us something about human longevity as well.

Deficient biological motion perception in schizophrenia: results from a motion noise paradigm

BACKGROUND Schizophrenia patients exhibit deficient processing of perceptual and cognitive information. However, it is not well-understood how basic perceptual deficits contribute to higher level cognitive problems in this mental disorder. Perception of biological motion, a motion-based cognitive recognition task, relies on both basic visual motion processing and social cognitive processing, th...

Comparing the effectiveness of drug therapy, motion-perceptual exercises and their combination on attentive functionin in children age 6-12 with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder

The purpose of this research was comparing the effectiveness of drug therapy, motion-perceptual exercises and their combination on attentive function in children between 6 to 12 years old with attention- hyperactivity disorder. In this Semi-empirical study, three groups were selected including 12 girls and boys (6- 12 years old) with attention/hyperactivity disorde. To collect data Conners ...

An asymmetry of translational biological motion perception in schizophrenia

BACKGROUND Biological motion perception is served by a network of regions in the occipital, posterior temporal, and parietal lobe, overlapping areas of reduced cortical volume in schizophrenia. The atrophy in these regions is assumed to account for deficits in biological motion perception described in schizophrenia but it is unknown whether the asymmetry of atrophy found in previous studies has...

The effect of selected perceptual - motor programs of fine motor development and writing score motion dysgraphia children

Abstract  objective: The porpose of this study was to study the effect of a selected perceptual-motor training on  fine motor skills and writing children with motion dysgraphia. Method: The present research belongs to the category of applied research and in the field of semi-experimental research. Among 41 male students suspected of writing disorder were studying in regular schools, which Ziaab...

Sensitivity to motion features in point light displays of biological motion.

Psychophysical experiments are described that measure the sensitivity to motion features in point light displays of biological motion. Three motion features were investigated: the relative motion of the thighs, the relative motion of the thigh and leg, and the velocity profile of the leg. The perceptual threshold for discriminating a change in each motion feature was compared in upright and inv...
